Thank you to: BUFCO and etobiGrow, for your donated Seedlings!

Your generous seedling donation to our gardeners, our non-profit organization and to our entire community is very much appreciated. Together: we all grow. Now, we have even more vegetables, stories and love to share with our Etobicoke community.

We are so happy to see all the donated veggie seedlings from BUFCO and etobiGrow have found a home. Stay tuned on this blog page for updated photos over the summer.

Seedling Donors:

BUFCO – Backyard Urban Farm Co.

etobiGrow – Urban Farm & Nursery (Etobicoke)

Many of your donated seedlings have homes in our community gardens.  Some seedlings were donated to the Humber GARDENS pod project and have been planted throughout their pods in south Etobicoke.

Our Seedling ‘Nursery’ – Planter Box was full of plant babies

We received these vibrant and healthy seedlings!

Veggie seedlings loved the rains of June!

Including zucchini, cucumbers, swiss chard, lettuce, oregano, tarragon, tomatillos, hot peppers and tons of tomatoes with a variety of colours.

Tips for your Veggie Gardens:

Water well (wisely – check on your garden often) to support young root systems in early summer

Add mulch to reduce moisture loss from the surface on hot days

Add triple mix or soil amendments to nourish your soil and keep plants growing strong

Check on your young plants regularly (or ask neighbhour plot garden stewards to monitor your garden when you are away)

All the seedlings that you donated to LEGS and the Humber GARDEN pod project have found homes and are enjoying the plentiful of rain and sunshine!  As of the first week of July, the June rains and cooler weather have done wonders for all the vegetables in our community garden plots. Update on the first harvests is coming up soon.

The donated seedlings are thriving!

Many green petals and colourful thank yous to our community friends!

We are fortunate to have this thriving ‘nursery’ planter box (donated by Julie’s family) in our community garden. Thank you also to Barbara and Brian (Barbara’s all around super handy man hubby and master-tea-packager in training) for fixing up the wobbly nursery arms and mesh covers.
